Kevin Klein, MD, garners UTSW award
During his 32-year career at UT Southwestern Medical
School (from which he earned his medical degree), DCMS
President Kevin Klein, MD, has given countless hours to
serving on school committees, task forces and initiatives.
In recognition of his work, he received the Institutional
Service Award from UT Southwestern, where he is a
professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Pain
Management, and Otolaryngology. He specializes in
anesthesia for otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.
Dr. Klein helped establish the UTSW Heart Transplant
Program at the former St. Paul University Hospital and
became medical director of anesthesiology when Zale
Lipshy University Hospital was under construction. As
such, he designed each operating room, acquiring and
supervising installation of anesthesia equipment, and
writing policies and procedures.
He has become known as UTSW’s expert in difficult
airway management and was recently designated a fellow
of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
For the past 15 years, Dr. Klein has led the Alpha
Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society Gamma Chapter
at UTSW, working closely with the associate deans of
students to enhance student participation.
