ER Doc’s Children’s Book
Casts Female Physicians as
SUPERHEROES
Since her days as a medical school
student, Dr. Amy Ho has pondered
questions countless women have
asked themselves: Is it possible
to have a successful career and a happy
family life with children? Can women really
have it all?
Dr. Ho addresses the challenging topic
in her recently published children’s book,
Is Mommy a Doctor or Superhero?, and answers
the questions with an emphatic yes!
“Over the years, as more and more of
my peers became mothers, I saw firsthand
the strong women in medicine who really
did it all – academic careers, administrative
leadership positions, skilled clinicians,
dedicated wives, and loving mothers,” Dr.
Ho said. “I dedicated my book to them –
to honor the incredible women I’ve admired

and had the privilege of working with, being
mentored by, and being befriended by in
my career.”
The delightful characters of the book
include, of course, Doctor Mommy and
her charming young daughter, who explore
what it means to be a superhero and discover
that the power to be one lies within
us all.
A career as a doctor is all consuming, as
is motherhood! But Dr. Ho has witnessed
firsthand the courage and tenacity of
women who do both well.
“I worked with a physician who never
missed bedtime for each of her children,
whether it was in person or via FaceTime
from the breakroom, and she did so with
an executive leadership title and a full
clinical schedule,” Dr. Ho said. “Another
