Dr. Bradley Weprin, Chair of the Board of Censors
What inspired you to go into
medicine?
My dad was the greatest
influence on my decision to go
into medicine. From a young
age, I was at his side on house
calls and at the hospital - when
not relegated to the doctors’
lounge.
The best part of practicing
medicine is…
the appreciation of patients
for your efforts and seeing
lives improve as a result of
treatment make practicing
medicine worthwhile.
If I weren’t a physician, I
would be…
Most everything we do
runs through a lawyer’s office
sooner or later. I would probably
8 DALLAS MEDICAL JOURNAL • February 2021
be a lawyer.
When I first became a physician,
I never expected…
The administrative intrusion
into the physician-patient relationship
and obstructions to
good care continue to surprise
me.
My favorite vacation was to…
the Burgundy and Beaujolais
regions of France and the
northeast of Spain on a bicycle.
There is no better way to
see and experience a country
than on a bike!
Dr. Emma Dishner
What inspired you to go into
medicine?
I’m a third-generation
physician. My grandfather,
Julian MarDock, was a general
practitioner in Oak Cliff, and my
mother, Ruth Anne MarDock,
was a Dallas psychiatrist.
They loved the challenges and
humanity of medicine. Through
their encouragement, I found
the same love.
The best part of practicing
medicine is…
solving of mysteries. In infectious
diseases, I have the pleasure
of thinking through touch
cases and finding answers.
If I weren’t a physician, I
would be…
orinthologist.
When I first became a physician,
I never expected…
My first job was…
camera salesman at Sanger-
Harris - predecessor of Macy’s
- in Preston Center. There’s a
Gold’s Gym in the building now.
The most recent TV show I
binge watched was…
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – great
show to watch with kids. Great,
quick humor.
What is your favorite app on
your phone?
Clinical Key gives great info
for any medical question - it
searches the literature as
well as textbooks. But I use
my camera app the most. The
quality of photos from phones
continues to improve.
Where would you like to live if
you could live anywhere in the
world?
New Zealand for its natural
beauty, nice people, and good
government.
What is on your bucket list?
A trip to Tasmania and the
rest of Australia.
Dr. Robert Gross
to be a pregnant infectious
diseases doctor during a global
pandemic.
My favorite vacation was to…
Mexico City with my husband
for our first anniversary. The
city is beautiful, and the food
is amazing!
My favorite movie is…
Charade with Audrey Hepburn
and Cary Grant.
My four fantasy dinner guests
would be…
Alfred Hitchcock, Amy
Schumer, Anthony Fauci, and
Sam MarDock (my great-grandfather
who immigrated from
China to work on the railroad).
What is your favorite app on
your phone?
Apple podcasts - I love the
Intelligence podcast by The
Economist.
Name a quote that has meaning
for you:
“After all, Ginger Rogers did
everything that Fred Astaire
did. She just did it backwards
and in high heels.” Ann Richards.
What is on your bucket list?
Being on the Price is Right.
What inspired you to go into
medicine?
I was inspired to go to
medical school by my father. I
wanted to be like him: kind and
empathetic, brilliant, and technically
skilled. He is a doctor’s
doctor, a surgeon’s surgeon.
The best part of practicing
medicine is…
watching your patients thrive.
If I weren’t a physician, I
would be…
I cannot imagine anything else.
When I first became a physician,
I never expected…
to encounter individuals
who did not trust science and
medicine.
My favorite vacation was…
anytime I’m with my wife
and children. That said, the
summer before last, we went
to Iceland, Norway, and Sweden
for graduation celebrations,
and nothing could have been
better.
My favorite movie is…
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory.
The book I’m reading now is…
Unaccountable: What Hospitals
Won’t Tell You and How
Transparency Can Revolutionize
Health Care.

leading marketing surveys
for Facts in Focus.

you could live anywhere in the
world?
Vail, Colorado.
Who do you look up to as a
mentor?
My wife, my father, Steve
Haines, and Jerry Oakes (neurosurgeons
responsible for my
training).
